In our students' first year of physical education we present them with the opportunity to discover how their bodies work and give them the opportunity to explore their strengths and weaknesses in a curriculum that revolves around five components.

Each day students will participate in one of the five following curriculum components:
  1. Exercise Science- Students come to the Exercise Science Lab to test and measure themselves with state of the art equipment. When the tests are complete the data will be entered in to each student's own personal profile on the computer.
  2. Cardiovascular Fitness- Students have the opportunity to participate in a 1.5 mile timed run.
  3. Rhythm, Movement and Flexibility- We introduce and refine skills of flexibility, rhythm and movement through dance, stretching, jump rope and basic coordination skills.
  4. The Body Shop- Muscular strength and endurance techniques and principles are presented in a format to help students understand the value of attaining and maintaining a healthy body.
  5. Basic Skills- Students explore the basic skills of hand-eye coordination, foot-eye coordination, striking, kicking, throwing, catching and movement.

Seventh Grade: "Personal Development"

While the three components of Exercise Science, Cardiovascular Fitness and the Body Shop continue to be vital components of our curriculum, the seventh grade program is supplemented by two new components.
  1. The Adventure Academy- A ropes course designed to teach students skills in communication, critical thinking, self-esteem and leadership using challenges that are both on the ground and up to 45 feet in the air.
  2. Individual Sports- Students participate in a variety of sports that are "individual" in nature and may include golf, badminton, racquetball, pickle ball, table tennis and track and field.

Eighth Grade: "Activity for Life"

The sequential and developmental skills presented in both the sixth and seventh grades are taken to a more advanced level during the eighth grade year. Students continue their personal portfolio in the Exercise Science lab; in addition, they continue to challenge their cardiovascular fitness levels and progress in the Body Shop to heavier weights and more challenging activities. The emphasis on group dynamics in the Adventure Academy will continue to be important as these skills will transfer to the focus of the eighth grade curriculum in "Activity for Life." During this year and emphasis will be placed on team and individual activities that can be played for a lifetime. Examples of these activities include volleyball, basketball, tennis and golf.
